Meta has launched a dedicated iPad app for WhatsApp, nearly two decades after the messaging service and the first iPad were introduced in 2009 and 2010, respectively. The new app is available for download via the App Store and supports many of the same features as its iPhone counterpart, including audio and video calls with up to 32 people and screen sharing.
The iPad app works seamlessly with iPadOS features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, allowing users to multitask while chatting. This new feature makes the larger screen more practical for browsing and watching videos while using WhatsApp, compared to switching away on smaller mobile devices.
Previously, users had to rely on the web version or desktop apps to access WhatsApp on a larger screen. Meta has finally brought a native iPadOS experience, as promised by WhatsApp head Will Cathcart in 2022. The company is also rumored to be developing an Instagram app for iPad, but no official announcement has been made yet.
