Meta has officially launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for the iPad, marking a significant development in the messaging platform’s expansion across Apple devices. The new app allows users to make video and audio calls with up to 32 people, share screens, and use both front and back cameras.
The iPad app will utilize iPadOS multitasking features, including Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, enabling users to view multiple apps at once, send messages while browsing the web, or research options during group calls. The app also supports Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil functionality.
This launch comes after a subtle tease on Meta’s WhatsApp account on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the dedicated iPad app was in development. The news is particularly notable as Instagram is reportedly working on an iPad app as well.
The new app ensures that users can maintain consistency across their devices, including iPhone, Mac, and other platforms, while still benefiting from end-to-end encryption for personal messages, calls, and media. The WhatsApp dedicated iPad app is now available to download from the App Store.
