Millions of Americans rely on Social Security payments, and with a new month comes a fresh set of recipients. This year’s payment schedule has been subject to scrutiny due to efforts by the Trump administration to cut federal spending.
According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, if Social Security “didn’t send out their checks this month,” it would be a good opportunity to root out potential fraudsters. However, most recipients will still receive their payments on time.
For those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the payment schedule is as follows: SSI recipients will get two checks in May – one on May 1 (the check for May 2025) and a second on May 30 (the check for June).
The Social Security Administration has announced its yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026, which are available online. Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be sent out on the SSA’s usual schedule, with payments scheduled for April 9, April 16, and April 23.
SSI eligibility is determined by income or resources, with adults who qualify not having monthly wages above $2,019. Those who may be eligible can begin the application process online, in person at their local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
With the Trump administration’s focus on reducing federal spending, it remains to be seen how this will impact recipients. However, for now, most Americans can expect their Social Security payments to go out as scheduled in April.
