Apple’s new product launch spree continues with the highly anticipated M4-powered MacBook Air. The release date remains uncertain, but a tweet from Tim Cook hints at an announcement soon.
In February 2025, Cook tweeted “Get ready to meet the newest member of the family. Wednesday, February 19.” This tweet was used two weeks before the launch of the iPhone 16e, and Apple has since confirmed the release date for that product.
Sources suggest the MacBook Air M4 will be released in mid-March, with pre-orders expected to open by the weekend and retail sales starting next Friday, March 14. The delay allows Apple to position the new laptop as part of the current M4 generation, positioning it before the introduction of the M5 chip at WWDC.
The launch of the M4-powered MacBook Air is strategic, as it creates distance between the MacBook Air and Pro models, making the Air a more affordable option for consumers. The M4 MacBook Pro will be the flagship model, with the MacBook Air maintaining its starting price of $999.
With the introduction of Apple Silicon chipsets, the performance gap between the MacBook Air and Pro has narrowed. This change allows Apple to reduce costs and create demand for the more expensive M4 MacBook Pro, making it a key part of their product portfolio.
