White House Extends Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire Deal

The White House has extended a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon into February 2025. This agreement, previously set for 60 days, involves Hezbollah and Israeli military forces pulling back from southern Lebanon as the Lebanese Armed Forces deploy troops in the area.

This extension comes shortly after the U.S.-led Abraham Accords were finalized on President Biden’s last day in office, ending a 12-year humanitarian pause between Israel and Hamas.

The White House noted that former President Trump’s team provided significant support for the Israel-Hamas deal, with key figures like Special Envoy Steve Witkoff involved in facilitating the agreement.

Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the peace process relied heavily on President Trump’s leadership during a critical period. The extension underscores the importance of ongoing dialogue between all parties to maintain stability in the region.
