Grammy-winning singer Beyoncé has been defended by EGOT winner and comedian Whoopi Goldberg after conservative pundit Raymond Arroyo criticized her recent wins at the 2025 Grammys. Arroyo claimed that Beyoncé’s wins were a “ridiculous outcome” due to her being nominated in multiple genres, including country.
Goldberg took issue with Arroyo’s comments on The View, saying he would need to be a music industry expert to accurately judge the Grammys. She pointed out that there are over 90 categories at the Grammys now, and winners are determined by voters who have experience in the music industry.
Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” was historic for its impact on Black artists in country music and sparked cultural conversations about genre reclaiming. The singer has also spoken publicly about feeling unwelcome in the country genre when she first tried to enter it.
Goldberg countered Arroyo’s comments, saying that music is not about the issues of a specific group, but rather about the people. She encouraged Arroyo to “sit down” and acknowledge that winners earn their awards through hard work and talent.
