Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, has revealed the reason behind their decision not to create DLC for their games. In a recent interview with GameSpot, Vincke stated that he considers it “boring” and that there was no passion behind the DLC they were making for Baldur’s Gate 3.
The studio had initially planned to release DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 but ultimately decided not to proceed due to a lack of enthusiasm from their team. Instead, Larian is now focusing on new game projects, which has led to increased job satisfaction among developers.
Vincke emphasizes the importance of having happy developers in order to create happy players. He notes that when his team was tasked with creating DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, they realized it wasn’t a project they were passionate about and ultimately decided to abandon it.
Despite not releasing DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, the game did receive significant post-launch support. New content was added, including an epilogue camp that provided new conversations with companions and wrapped up their stories.
Larian Studios, founded in 1996, has been owned by Tencent since 2019. The studio is known for its work on the Baldur’s Gate series.
