The phrase “67” often comes with an accompanying hand gesture and is used when saying “six” and “seven” together. Despite its popularity among kids, teachers say it’s driving them crazy and disrupting classrooms. Some educators have taken to social media to share their tips on how to limit “67” outbursts.
One teacher, Adria Laplander, has even created a TikTok video explaining her punishment for students who use the term. She makes students write essays, with increasing word counts each time they repeat the phrase. Another teacher, Monica Choflet, requires offenders to write a line acknowledging that they won’t say “67” in class.
While some teachers are frustrated with the slang, others appreciate its creativity and have turned it into a playful way to refocus their students. The debate highlights the challenges of navigating language trends among kids and finding ways to keep classrooms productive.
