Universal’s adaptation of Wicked has been highly anticipated, and now, with the second and final film on the way, it was only a matter of time before the first footage from “Wicked: For Good” made its debut. Director Jon M. Chu, producer Marc Platt, and stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande joined forces to introduce this exciting trailer at CinemaCon.
The trailer gives us glimpses into both Glinda’s life in the Emerald City and Elphaba’s solitary existence in the woods. We see Glinda living a life of luxury, while Elphaba is shown reading propaganda about herself, hinting at the danger she faces. The scene with Prince Fiyero and his squad on the hunt for Elphaba adds to the tension.
The trailer also touches on themes of friendship and love, showing the developing bond between Glinda and Elphaba. We see scenes of them sitting together on a swing, discussing their shared goals, and later, Fiyero standing on an altar with what appears to be Glinda by his side.
The Wizard’s palace is shown, featuring familiar faces from “The Wizard of Oz,” including Dorothy, the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Scarecrow. The scene where Fiyero shifts allegiance from hunting Elphaba to having her back adds a surprising twist.
The trailer concludes with Elphaba standing resolute, ready to face the Wizard. As she says, “I’m off to see the Wizard,” we’re left wondering what’s next for our beloved Wicked characters. The highly anticipated film “Wicked: For Good” will hit theaters on November 21.
