Wicker Re-elected with 63% of Vote in Mississippi Senate Race

Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker has won his re-election bid with 63% of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Ty Pinkins, who received 37%. Wicker will serve another six-year term representing Mississippi in Congress.

Wicker told the Mississippi Free Press that he sought re-election to address unfinished business in Mississippi, including supporting small businesses, veterans, and flood-control projects. He emphasized the importance of renewing tax provisions encouraging job creation and reducing regulatory burdens on small business owners.

Pinkins ran on a platform of supporting women’s reproductive rights, including abortion, and criticized Wicker’s efforts to restrict abortion rights. Pinkins also highlighted his own experiences working with farm owners who brought in white South African immigrants, citing disparities in pay between Black and immigrant workers.

In contrast, Wicker has fought to restrict abortion rights multiple times since joining the Senate in 2007 and voted against federal protections for same-sex couples. Despite this, Pinkins lost by a significant margin, with 668,802 Mississippians choosing Wicker over 393,330 for Pinkins.

The outcome follows Republican wins in the House of Representatives, including Trent Kelly, Bennie Thompson, Michael Guest, and Mike Ezell, who secured their re-elections with varying degrees of margins.
