The Minnesota Wild defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Thursday, snapping a two-game skid. Filip Gustavsson made 37 saves for the Wild, while Frederik Andersen struggled with 22 saves for the Hurricanes.
Newcomer Vinnie Hinostroza scored his first goal in the NHL, while Yakov Trenin also found the back of the net. Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes, but it was not enough to overcome the Wild’s strong third-period push.
The game saw a 15-7 advantage in shots on goal by the end of the second period, with the Hurricanes pushing hard in the first frame. However, Minnesota came out strong in the third and capitalized on a rebound from Jared Spurgeon’s point shot, which Hinostroza tapped past Andersen’s glove.
Aho cut the deficit to 1-0 at one point, but it was too little, too late for the Hurricanes as the Wild held on for the win. The Hurricanes have now lost three consecutive games.
