A devastating bird flu outbreak at the Wild Felid Advocacy Center on Harstine Island has killed 20 cats, half of the sanctuary’s total animal population. Director Mark Mathews described the situation as “like being in a war zone.” The center is currently closed to tours and all animals are in quarantine, with no new admissions accepted due to the outbreak.
