Game developers former Blizzard devs have revealed a new game called Wildgate, which appears to be a space-based version of the popular multiplayer title Sea of Thieves. Players take on the role of a Prospector searching for fortune and legendary artifacts in the frontier region of The Reach.
The game emphasizes multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to join crews of up to four Prospectors to scavenge loot and upgrade their ships. Mid-match progression is abundant, with upgrades including ship guns, turrets, personal weapons, traps, and more.
The trailer showcases a Big Red Button that starts a countdown to a ship-annihilating explosion, as well as mid-combat ship management and environmental hazards such as space lava and cosmic storms. The game promises treasure beyond players’ wildest dreams and features diverse Prospectors to play as.
Wildgate is the debut game from Moonshot Studios, developed by former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime and his team, who have experience on titles like Hearthstone and Starcraft 2. The game will launch later this year on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with a playable demo available now at playwildgate.com.
