Call of Duty: Black Ops series has seen a mix of reactions to its colorful “goofy” skins over the past nine months. The designs have blurred the lines between player expression and competitive gameplay, causing concerns among fans.
Miles Leslie, associate creative director at Call of Duty, discussed this issue in an interview ahead of Black Ops 7’s reveal. He stated that the team tries to balance their efforts to appeal to a wide audience while also taking community feedback seriously. However, they aim to find a “tight balance” between representing different fans and avoiding over-the-top designs.
In contrast, Battlefield 6 is adopting a more serious approach to its military simulation gameplay. Design director Shashank Uchil expressed his desire for a more grounded look, rejecting outlandish outfits in favor of realism. This shift may indicate that Call of Duty will adopt a similar tone with Black Ops 7.
IGN’s Senior Editor Simon Cardy is set to provide an in-depth preview of Black Ops 7, covering its development and the team’s approach to balance community feedback and design elements.
