Will Smith has sparked speculation about his involvement in the upcoming fifth Matrix movie after sharing a cryptic video on Instagram. The actor claims he was once offered the role of Neo but turned it down to work on Wild Wild West.
However, Entertainment Weekly confirms that Smith is not involved in the new film. Director Drew Goddard and Lana Wachowski will write, direct, and produce the movie, respectively.
In a 2019 video interview, Smith recalled his experience with the Wachowskis’ pitch meeting for The Matrix, which left him unimpressed. He later made Wild Wild West to secure another role.
Goddard expressed his admiration for the original Matrix films, describing Lana and Lilly’s work as “exquisite artistry” that inspires him daily. The new movie is expected to honor the franchise’s legacy while offering a unique perspective.
