Will Smith Returns with Long-Awaited Album ‘Based On a True Story’

After a 20-year hiatus, Will Smith is set to release his first full-length album in two decades. The 14-track record, titled “Based on a True Story,” will arrive on March 28. The album features collaborations with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, and Jac Ross.

Smith’s last album, “Lost and Found,” was released in 2005. He first announced the new project when unveiling his single “Beautiful Scars” in January, which also featured Big Sean and Obanga.

The upcoming record includes previously-released singles such as “Work of Art” with Jaden Smith and Russ, “Tantrum” featuring Joyner Lucas, and “You Can Make It,” which he performed at the 2024 Bet Awards.

Smith had been working on the project for over a year and a half, describing it as his most personal and powerful music yet. He also recently reunited with costar Tatyana Ali to film a version of her social media challenge, showcasing dance moves reminiscent of his “Fresh Prince” days.
