Will Smith Returns with New Album “Based on a Story”

After a 20-year hiatus from music, Will Smith has released his new album “Based on a Story”. The 56-year-old entertainer opens the record with the track “Int. Barbershop – Day”, which reunites him with DJ Jazzy Jeff, his partner in the iconic duo Fresh Prince.

Smith’s new track features collaborations with B. Simone and includes lyrics that reference his infamous 2022 Oscars incident, where he slapped comedian Chris Rock onstage. Lines from the song include “I heard he won the Oscar but he had to give it back” and “You better keep his wife’s name out of your mouth”, addressing Smith’s marriage to actor Jada Pinkett Smith.

The album’s sound is reminiscent of early Eminem songs, with a funky instrumental track. Other tracks showcase Smith’s solo hits, including classic cuts like “Men In Black” and “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It”. The release comes just three years after the Oscars incident, which saw Smith banned from the ceremony for 10 years.

Smith has won four Grammy Awards throughout his music career and debuted at No. 6 with his previous album in 2005. With “Based on a Story”, he continues to prove his legacy as a musician.
