Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has sparked intrigue with a cryptic message on social media, fueling rumors that the team is making Aaron Rodgers their top pick.
Rodgers, 41, was let go by the New York Jets earlier this month after an injury-plagued two-year stint with the team. The four-time NFL MVP made his move to the Big Apple from the Green Bay Packers in 2023 but tore his left Achilles tendon just four plays into his debut.
Prior to Super Bowl LIX, the Jets announced they would be parting ways with Rodgers, who only managed to participate in 18 games during his brief tenure at MetLife Stadium. Last year, Wilson was the quarterback for the Steelers, but he’s currently a free agent.
The Steelers have been showing interest in signing Rodgers, and it appears that head coach Mike Tomlin has made him his top choice. After being shown around the franchise’s facilities as part of a free-agent visit, Wilson posted an eight-word message on social media: “Relentless Confidence. Don’t ever stop believing in you!”
ESPN reports that while no deal has been struck yet, Tomlin would prefer to bring Rodgers to Acrisure Stadium. The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants had previously emerged as potential suitors for Rodgers, but they opted not to pursue him.
Rodgers has the luxury of waiting until after the NFL Draft to decide on his next steps in the game. Despite being 41, he is keen on continuing to play and has been making efforts to persuade the Jets to keep him on board. However, it seems that the team had made up their minds to let him go before Rodgers got a chance to meet with new head coach Aaron Glenn.
