Windows 11 24H2 Drops Support for Older Intel Processors from Now On

Microsoft has officially ended support for several generations of Intel processors on its latest version of Windows 11, 24H2. This decision only applies to OEM systems and does not affect users who already own these chips.

The affected Intel processor generations include the 8th, 9th, and 10th gen Core processors. Despite these processors supporting TPM 2.0, a hardware-based security feature required for Windows 11, Microsoft has chosen to focus on newer models that meet its ‘design principles’ of security and reliability.

However, users can still receive the latest Windows updates if they own one of the excluded Intel processors. OEMs, on the other hand, will no longer be able to provide these updates if they purchase a system with an older Intel processor from now on.

In contrast, AMD’s 8000 series processors are now supported for Windows 11 24H2, including models such as the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8500G. It is recommended that buyers consider at least a 12th gen Core processor or higher for their OEM systems.

Note: The list of compatible AMD processors has not been included in this article as it is extensive.
