Microsoft has made a significant change to the Windows 11 update process. The AppX Deployment Service (Appxsvc), which is responsible for installing and updating apps on Windows 10, has been set to automatically start up with the system at Windows 11 startup.
This change was initially not announced in the original KB5072033 update release notes, but later updated to include information about it. The service uses a lot of memory and can cause high CPU usage, especially for users with lower-spec computers.
Microsoft claims that this change is meant to improve reliability in “isolated scenarios”, but some users are concerned that this could be a problem for everyone, not just those with specific needs. There are no further details on what these isolated scenarios might be.
The rest of the KB5072033 update includes changes such as simplified Windows update titles and updates to the December servicing schedule. However, there is also a warning about Secure Boot certificates expiring in June 2026, which could affect device security if not updated in time.
As always, Microsoft Store app updates are not included in standard Windows updates. Users can find more information on how to manage Microsoft Store apps and secure their devices.
