Microsoft has finally added a long-awaited feature to Windows 11, allowing users to open an item as admin using a new shortcut within the Start menu. The update is available for those on the Beta Channel, who will receive Build 22635.4445, and Dev Channel Insiders, who will get Build 26120.2222.
For Beta Channel users, holding Shift + CTRL when right-clicking on an item in a jump list or taskbar will now launch that item as admin. For example, clicking PowerShell while holding Shift + CTRL next to Windows Terminal would open a PowerShell window as admin.
On the other hand, Dev Channel Insiders can hold Shift and CTRL when clicking on a jump list item in Start menu or taskbar to launch it as admin.
This feature is a welcome addition, but Microsoft has also marked an issue in Build 26120.2222 that may cause Narrator to crash if using one of the natural voices like Jenny. Users are advised to pause updates from Settings under Windows Update > “Pause Updates” and switch to another voice in Accessibility > Narrator settings.
Additionally, a new folder option has been added to the context menu when right-clicking locations in the navigation pane on both builds.
While this update is relatively minor, it’s a step forward for Windows 11 users.
