Windows 11 is set to gain a highly requested feature that allows multiple apps to access a camera simultaneously. The new multi-app camera feature, part of Windows 11 Build 26120.2702, was designed with the Hard-of-Hearing community in mind to improve accessibility. The feature enables video streaming to both a sign language interpreter and the end audience at the same time.
To use this feature, users will need to navigate to the Settings app, select the camera, and click on the “advanced camera options” page. There, they will find two configurations: multi-app camera, which allows multiple applications to access the camera stream simultaneously, and basic camera, which enables basic camera functionality for improved debugging.
This feature is also accompanied by API support for third-party passkey providers, aimed at improving login security with a passwordless future. Additionally, updates have been made to WebAuthn APIs to support a plugin authentication model for passkeys.
While the changes in Windows 11 Build 22635.4655 are minor, they include improvements to the Start menu and desktop Spotlight icon interaction model. A new feature to provide a visual preview for shared content has also been added.
The multi-app camera feature is expected to be rolled out soon, offering users more flexibility and accessibility options when using their webcam.
