Microsoft has confirmed that the next version of Windows 11 will be version 25H2, with the first Insider Preview build now available. The update promises faster installation compared to previous versions and will share the same platform release as version 24H2.
Windows 11 version 25H2 is not a major upgrade from a technical standpoint, sharing the same platform release and servicing stack as version 24H2. This means that upgrading from version 24H2 to 25H2 will be a simple process, similar to a typical cumulative update.
Despite the announcement, new features for version 25H2 are not yet available, but they will be developed for this version and eventually released for version 24H2 and possibly 23H2. The launch may coincide with the end of official support for Windows 10 in October, which could prompt more users to upgrade to Windows 11.
Version 25H2 will reset the support clock back to 35 months for enterprise editions and 24 months for consumer and pro editions. Users are advised to update to version 25H2 when it becomes available later this year to ensure continued support for their PCs.
