Windows 11 Update Bricks Samsung Laptop C: Drive Access

Many users who recently updated to Windows 11 on their Samsung laptops have been locked out of their own hard drive after installing a security update. The issue, reportedly caused by a conflict between the KB5077181 patch and OEM-specific software on Samsung devices, prevents users from accessing their files even with administrative privileges.

The problem affects Windows 11 versions 24H2 or 25H2, rendering users unable to launch basic programs or access their root directory. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is investigating it with Samsung. A hotfix to automatically restore permissions is not currently available.

Users can temporarily resolve the issue by rolling back the KB5077181 update or pausing updates until a permanent fix is released.
