Witness Rare Celestial Alignment of 7 Planets in the Night Sky

A rare planetary alignment will illuminate the night sky in February, offering a unique opportunity to see up to seven planets at once. The alignment includes four or five bright planets visible with the naked eye, including Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These planets can be spotted even under light-polluted city skies.

However, Uranus and Neptune will also make an appearance, but are fainter and require binoculars to observe. They will appear as greenish-blue fuzzy points of light, requiring a small telescope for closer inspection.

To witness this celestial event, look for the bright moon, which will serve as a guidepost. Different planets will align with the moon on various dates throughout February. The alignment is not rare, and similar events have occurred in the past, including a more compact huddle of planets in 2022.

The best viewing time is 30-45 minutes after sunset, when the low southwestern horizon is clear. By mid-March, the planets will begin to disband, disappearing from view as some become hidden by sunlight glare or entering the early morning sky.

What makes this alignment remarkable is that all seven planets and the moon appear along a line in Earth’s skies due to their shared path on the ecliptic. Each planet orbits the Sun at vastly different distances, yet they can be seen together from our perspective on Earth.
