Witness Texas’ Brightest Meteor Shower This Weekend

A powerful meteor shower is heading to Texas, offering a rare opportunity for residents to witness over 100 shooting stars in an hour. The Geminids meteor shower, one of NASA’s most reliable and visible events, peaks on December 13 and 14.

According to the American Meteor Society, the Geminids are bright and intensely colored, but their speed means they won’t produce persistent trains. However, if skies are clear, viewers can spot many meteors by looking up at a moonlit direction.

A nearly full moon on December 15 will affect visibility, but NASA assures that even with a moon in the sky, there’s still potential to see bright meteors. The Geminids are created from debris left behind by asteroid particles orbiting the sun and not comets.

Residents can witness this spectacular event from dark spaces, away from city lights. Simply find a spot where the night is pitch black, lean back, and look up. Don’t worry if you don’t see anything right away – the show will continue until sunrise.
