Witness Total Lunar Eclipse in Portland with OMSI’s Late-Night Watch Party

Get ready for a rare celestial event! The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is hosting a late-night watch party in Portland on March 13, offering attendees a clear view of the total lunar eclipse.

The free event will take place in the museum’s south parking lot beside the Tilikum Crossing bridge, starting at 10 p.m. OMSI staff and local astronomers will set up telescopes for attendees to use while providing an informal talk about the eclipse and night sky.

During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth cuts off the Moon’s light supply, causing its surface to take on a reddish glow. The partial eclipse will begin at 10:09 p.m., with the full eclipse happening between 11:26 p.m. and 12:31 a.m.

Viewers should look to the southeast to spot the full moon hanging overhead. Those unable to attend in person can catch the live stream on Time and Date.

Note: The event is weather-dependent, so attendees are advised to check for updates before heading out.
