American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court for smoking cannabis on stage during his performance at the Beach, Please! festival last year. The sentence was overturned from an earlier fine of £619 but still leaves the artist to serve time in custody. Despite being sentenced in absentia and performing with Gunna in California just days before, Khalifa took to social media to post pictures and clips from his home. Authorities cited the act as “normalisation of illegal conduct” and encouraged drug use among young people. An extradition request will be submitted to the US, but it’s unlikely due to Romania’s lack of negotiating power and cannabis laws in the country.
