‘Wizard of Oz’ Comes Alive at Las Vegas Sphere

The Wizard of Oz is taking over the iconic Las Vegas Sphere for an extended run starting August 28. The immersive experience will transport audience members into a world of vibrant colors, scents, and sensations, bringing the classic film’s original 4:3 aspect ratio to life on the venue’s massive 16K resolution screen.

The show features wraparound 360° visuals, vibrating haptic seats, environmental effects, and custom scents that simulate the tornado experience from the movie. According to Sphere President Jennifer Koester, “You’re not going to watch a movie, you are going to live a movie.” The show was constructed using the original 1939 film’s source material and scores, resulting in a 75-minute cinematic experience.

To commemorate the event, an oversized installation of Dorothy’s farmhouse crashing down on the Wicked Witch has been unveiled outside Sphere. Tickets for all upcoming screenings are now available on secondary market platforms like Vivid Seats, with prices varying depending on demand.

The Las Vegas Sphere will also host other notable shows, including Academy Award-nominated director Darren Aronofsky’s immersive film “Postcard From Earth” and U2’s ‘V-U2′ concert film. Country superstar Kenny Chesney has a few shows lined up, followed by Backstreet Boys’ 21-concert residency in July, EDM festival UNITY in August, and Rock Hall of Famers The Eagles’ long-running residency from September to November.

East Coasters can catch the long-running musical “Wicked” on Broadway, while fans can track upcoming touring productions at a theater near them. For more information on all events at Sphere, visit their website.
