Wizards of the Coast has issued an apology for mistakenly removing a popular fan-made mod from Nexus Mods, titled “Baldur’s Village,” which allows players to add Baldur’s Gate 3 characters to Stardew Valley. The company attributed the error and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
In February, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke praised the mod, stating that it was an “amazing work” with a lot of love invested into it. However, just weeks later, Wizards of the Coast issued a DMCA takedown notice, removing the mod from the platform.
A spokesperson for Nexus Mods expressed hope that this was an oversight and that the decision would be reversed. Vincke has since commented on the situation, expressing support for the mod and acknowledging the challenges of protecting intellectual property.
The incident has raised questions about Wizards of Coast’s handling of fan-made content and their recent plans for the Baldur’s Gate IP. It is unclear whether this takedown is part of a larger crackdown or an isolated mistake.
