WM Phoenix Open Revamps Event to Balance Fun and Safety

The WM Phoenix Open, golf’s biggest party, has made significant changes to ensure a smoother experience for fans and players alike. Last year’s event was marred by inclement weather, overcrowding, and rowdy crowds that led to shouting matches with fans and even a player being told to “shut the hell up.” In response, tournament officials have implemented new measures to enhance fan flow, reduce congestion, and maintain a safe environment.

The most notable changes include adding a new entrance near the tee box at No. 18, switching to all-digital ticketing with specific day options, widening pathways, and upgrading concessions. Police and security will also crack down on unruly fans outside the ropes. To combat overcrowding, organizers have emphasized the importance of adhering to the fan code of conduct, which can be accessed through digital tickets.

The changes aim to preserve the event’s reputation as “the People’s Open” while ensuring a more enjoyable experience for players and spectators. Tournament chairman Matt Mooney noted that balancing fun with safety is crucial, citing the event’s $500 million economic impact on the area each year and over $200 million in charitable giving since its inception.

The 2025 WM Phoenix Open will be broadcast live on Golf Channel all four days, followed by CBS for the third and final rounds. Streaming options include ESPN+, Paramount+, NBC sports app, CBS sports app, and Fubo, offering a free trial.
