WNBA Investigates Hateful Fan Comments Directed at Angel Reese

The WNBA has launched an investigation into allegations of “hateful fan comments” directed at Angel Reese during a game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever in Indianapolis. The incident occurred when Caitlin Clark slapped at the ball after Reese grabbed an offensive rebound, leading to a confrontation.

Reese was booed by fans throughout the game but received increased boos during her foul shots. She declined to comment on the matter through a representative. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert stated that hate and discrimination have no place in the league, saying “basketball can be a unifying force.”

The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky are cooperating with the investigation. The players’ union has also expressed support for the WNBA’s investigation, stating “such behavior is unacceptable” and calling for swift action to ensure a safe environment for all WNBA players.

Clark downplayed the incident, saying it was just a basketball play and she wasn’t trying to do anything malicious. However, her actions were upgraded to a flagrant 1 foul.
