A 55-year-old man from Texas has been charged with stalking WNBA star Caitlin Clark after allegedly sending her threatening and sexually explicit messages on social media. Michael Lewis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning, facing up to six years in prison if convicted.
According to court documents, the messages were sent between December 16 and January 2, causing Clark to feel “terrorized, frightened, intimidated, or threatened”. The FBI tracked the IP addresses of the messages to a hotel in downtown Indianapolis, where Lewis was found.
Lewis claimed his messages were just an “imagination, fantasy type thing” but prosecutors say they caused Clark significant distress and fear for her safety. The case highlights the courage of women who come forward in such incidents and serves as an example for others. This incident follows a similar stalking case involving another women’s college basketball star, Paige Bueckers, just weeks earlier.
