Wolff Rules Out Verstappen Move

Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff has confirmed that signing Max Verstappen for 2026 is “not on any radar”. The Australian Grand Prix marks the start of the new season, with George Russell’s contract expiring at the end of this year. Although Verstappen is under contract to Red Bull until 2028, Wolff stated that he will focus on retaining Russell and give him a contract extension.

Russell remains confident in his relationship with Mercedes, citing their long-term partnership and trust between them as key factors. He believes performance will dictate the team’s success, and currently has no pressure on himself.

With Formula 1’s technical regulations set to change for next season, Wolff acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the teams’ competitiveness. Red Bull’s new engine facility could potentially give them an advantage, while Mercedes aims to maintain their standard-setter status in F1 engines.

Wolff also expressed caution about McLaren’s pre-season performance, noting that testing results can be difficult to predict. However, he expects a strong season from the reigning constructors’ champions and hopes for podiums and victories from Russell and new signing Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
