Woman Accused of Poisoning Ex-Husband’s Family with Mushrooms

An Australian woman, Erin Patterson, has been accused of murdering her ex-husband’s parents and their sister by serving them poisoned mushrooms at a lunch gathering. The victims were Don and Gail Patterson, 70, and Heather Wilkinson, 66, who both died after eating the tainted Beef Wellington. Erin’s ex-husband, Simon, was also invited to the lunch but did not attend.

Prosecutors claim that Erin lied about having cancer to her guests, including her children, in an attempt to keep them away from the meal. The defense team argued that Erin did not intend to serve poisonous mushrooms and described the incident as a “tragedy and terrible accident.” Erin has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder.
