Woman Given Short Sentence for Attempting to Kill Disabled Son with Poison

A Minnesota woman, Julie Louise Myhre-Schnell, has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to kill her disabled adult son. On December 3, 2023, Myhre-Schnell added lethal medication to her son’s feeding bag at a group home in Vadnais Heights. The mother had hoped her son would die. The prosecution sought an 18-year sentence, but the judge imposed a much shorter three-year term. Critics argue that the leniency is unfair and reflects the flaws of the justice system.
