Woman Re-Attached After ‘Decapitated’ Fall During Gym Class

A 35-year-old Illinois woman, Megan King, has revealed her horrific sports accident that left her on the verge of being “internally decapitated” and made her life miserable. The incident occurred during gym class in 2005 when she fell while trying to catch a soccer ball, damaging her right ankle and spine.

King underwent multiple surgeries on her shoulders and shoulder blades, with doctors mystified by her body’s inability to heal. It wasn’t until 2015 that she was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehler’s-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), a genetic disorder affecting joint tissue formation.

In 2016, King’s neck dislocated, and she was fitted with a Halo brace, which nearly caused her skull to detach from her spine. She experienced internal decapitation, a rare condition that can be fatal in over 90% of cases. Doctors were able to re-attach her head after emergency surgery.

Today, King is fused from her skull to her pelvis due to multiple spinal fusions and surgeries. Despite the challenges, she has regained some mobility and is slowly rebuilding her life, including participating in hobbies like walking with her dogs and bowling.
