A French woman was duped out of nearly €800,000 by scammers posing as actor Brad Pitt. The woman, identified only as Anne, was contacted online by someone claiming to be Pitt’s mother and convinced that the actor needed her help paying for medical care.
Anne reportedly sent over €10,000 in response to a claim that she needed to pay customs tariffs to receive gifts from Pitt. When she learned of his real relationship status with Ines De Ramon, the scammers denied it, but ultimately Anne realized she was being scammed and filed a lawsuit. A police inquiry has been opened, and a French television outlet removed an interview with Anne due to online ridicule.
