Leaders from around the world have called for urgent action to protect oceans at the Blue Economy Forum in Monaco. Prince William emphasized the importance of optimism and urgency, stating that protecting the world’s oceans is “like none that we have faced before” due to the ticking clock.
French President Emmanuel Macron criticized countries denying climate change, warning that it’s not an opinion but a scientifically established fact. He vowed to make strong decisions with other governments soon, mobilizing the international community to protect the oceans.
The forum focused on ratifying the High Seas Treaty, which aims to conserve international waters. The UN Oceans Conference in Nice is expected to bring together over 50 world leaders, including the US administration, although it will not be represented at this event.
The gathering of global leaders comes ahead of a critical moment in ocean conservation efforts, highlighting the need for collective responsibility and swift action to safeguard the future of our oceans.
