The iconic New York rap group Wu-Tang Clan has released their first video game, Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, 25 years ago. Now, they’re back with a new project called Rise of the Deceiver, announced at Summer Game Fest and their farewell tour opening performance.
Developed by Brass Lion Entertainment, Rise of the Deceiver is an action co-op game where players are empowered by legendary Wu-Tang Clan members to fight against invaders threatening their home. The game’s driving ethos is “do it for the culture,” meaning it’s built from the ground up to represent the group’s artistry and history.
The soundtrack features music from throughout the group’s 30-plus year history, with a dynamic music system reacting to player actions. Players will experience Wu-Tang’s discography in new ways, including remix versions, orchestral versions, and entirely new tracks incorporating samples.
Rise of the Deceiver aims to appeal to all kinds of video game fans, not just hip-hop enthusiasts. The game’s creators believe it’s a love letter to one of the greatest musical acts in a generation.
