West Virginia University is requiring all faculty members, researchers, and administrative employees who use outdated computers running Windows 10 to upgrade or replace their machines by September 30. This change aims to eliminate security risks associated with using an unsupported operating system.
The deadline applies to all WVU campuses, including Health Sciences Center locations. Faculty, researchers, and staff who are still using Windows 10 will need to work with their college or department IT support team to assess whether an upgrade is possible and explore alternative options if necessary.
Fortunately, major WVU systems and services have been upgraded to run on Windows 11, minimizing the likelihood of disruptions when users migrate. However, employees must take proactive steps to address the issue before the deadline to avoid having their computers removed from the network due to security concerns.
