Artificial intelligence company X has made significant changes to its popular chatbot service, Grok. As of now, users no longer need a premium subscription to access the AI-powered assistant. Instead, they can use Grok for free, with some limitations.
X is offering 10 free prompts every 2 hours, allowing users to interact with the chatbot without spending money. However, there’s a catch: users are restricted to analyzing only 3 images per day for free. Generating more images requires a subscription. This freemium model is similar to that of rival AI platforms OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
The change marks a significant shift in X’s strategy, after initially trialing the free version in certain countries like New Zealand last month. The move comes as X AI raises its total funding to $12 billion, with an additional $6 billion secured through a recent SEC filing.
