Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Drops ‘Exclusive’ Games Stance

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has shifted his stance on exclusive games, stating he no longer aims to move players from other platforms to Xbox. Instead, he wants to allow more people to play Xbox games across multiple systems. In an interview with the XboxEra podcast, Spencer acknowledged that selling games on competitor devices means Xbox only recoups 70% of the sale, but emphasized that this helps build great portfolios.

Spencer believes there are gamers who prefer certain platforms or controllers and should be allowed to play Xbox games regardless. He expressed pragmatism in admitting his position may change as he would like to make all the money from Xbox’s game sales now. However, Spencer reassured that Xbox will continue to invest in its hardware endeavors.

This shift comes after a recent interview where Spencer was asked about exclusivity windows for upcoming titles like Starfield. He replied that there won’t be an exclusive window on Xbox systems.
