Microsoft has delayed its highly anticipated Fable reboot from this year to 2026, citing a need for more time to ensure the game meets its high standards. In an interview on the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan expressed his confidence in the Playground Games team’s vision for the game.
Duncan assured fans that the delay is necessary to deliver an “amazing” gaming experience with “British humour and beautifully realised environments.” He shared some pre-alpha footage, showcasing striking city elements and glimpses of combat.
The Fable reboot was announced in 2020, with Playground Games leading the project. The team has previously released cinematic trailers, including a 2023 trailer featuring Richard Ayoade and a recent one revealing Matt King’s involvement as Super Hans.
Duncan emphasized that the delay is to ensure the game benefits from the team’s hard work, saying, “We do these things for the best of the games and the teams.” The Fable reboot is expected to arrive in 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting more information on this long-awaited project.
