Xbox Price Hike Takes Effect May 1, Consoles and Games Affected

Microsoft has announced that it will be raising prices on Xbox consoles, controllers, headsets, and some games, effective May 1. The price increases are taking effect globally, except for headset prices in the US and Canada.

The new prices are as follows:

– Xbox Series S 512: $379.99 (up from $299.99)
– Xbox Series X Digital: $549.99 (up from $449.99)
– Xbox Series X: $599.99 (up from $499.99)
– Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition: $729.99 (up from $599.99)

Gaming-related prices will remain unchanged for now, but Microsoft is expected to charge $79.99 for new, first-party games around the holiday season.

Xbox has attributed the price increases to market conditions and rising development costs. The company aims to offer more ways to play games across any screen while maintaining value for Xbox players.

This move comes amid increasing industry trends of price hikes on consoles and games. PlayStation recently raised prices globally, and Nintendo’s Switch 2 is launching at $450, sparking criticism from fans and analysts.

Microsoft has a series of upcoming events, including an Xbox Games Showcase 2025 and The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, where more information will be shared about the price increases and new game releases.
