The new Xiaomi 15 Ultra boasts a 200MP periscope lens and improved durability compared to its predecessor. The camera configuration remains competitive, but the phone’s global debut at Mobile World Congress may raise flags among Android competitors.
After testing the device for under a month, I found it increasingly difficult to switch back from my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. International phones support GSM-based cellular bands, making calling and browsing on LTE work in the US. The 200MP periscope camera delivers results comparable to its domestic rivals.
The phone’s hardware is more durable than last year’s model, with a higher-strength Gorilla Glass 7i layering protection. However, it’s heavier than expected due to the updated camera stack and larger battery capacity. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip provides a snappy software experience, but excessive bloatware remains.
The quad-camera setup is one of the most competent I’ve tested, with subtle upgrades across the board. The main 50MP lens captures subjects with dynamic range and depth, while the new 200MP periscope lens excels in low-light environments.
Considering its capabilities, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra might make sense to use a dedicated camera/shutter button. However, it currently retails for $1,555 USD due to global export restrictions and US tariffs.
