Xiaomi has launched its new electric SUV, the YU7, which is aiming to surpass sales of Tesla’s Model Y in China. The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, publicly stated that the goal was to overtake the Model Y’s sales in China.
Within 18 hours of launch, a staggering 240,000 orders were placed for the YU7, with many customers securing pre-production units. Xiaomi has since limited purchases to two vehicles per customer to ensure fairer distribution.
The YU7 boasts a larger wheelbase and longer length than its rival, the Model Y. It also offers more storage space and can be powered hands-free with voice commands. The vehicle’s price undercuts the Model Y by almost 4% in China, making it a significant threat to Tesla’s market share.
