Yankees Drop 49-Year-Old Beard Ban Under New Ownership

The New York Yankees have lifted their 49-year-old facial hair ban, allowing players to sport well-groomed beards moving forward. Current owner Hal Steinbrenner made the change after discussing it with star players Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gerrit Cole, citing a desire to improve player recruitment and win the team’s first World Series title since 2009. The ban was previously imposed by his father, George Steinbrenner, in 1976, but Steinbrenner now sees it as “outdated” and “somewhat unreasonable.” With the change, players like Clay Holmes and Gleyber Torres will be able to sport their beards without restriction.
