New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman has not appeared at the team’s first two days of workouts, leaving his locker untouched and sparking speculation about his whereabouts. The 32-year-old right-hander was seen taking a physical on Tuesday but has yet to join his teammates.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone didn’t comment on why Stroman isn’t in camp, saying only that he is “in Tampa” and will “speak” when he arrives. However, Boone acknowledged the situation might be awkward given Stroman’s high salary ($18.33 million in 2025) and his vesting option for 2026.
Stroman has been absent from social media discussions about his time with the Yankees, a routine practice before the offseason. Boone reassured that he is comfortable with Stroman’s mental and physical state but understands the situation might be perceived differently due to the team’s high-profile status.
The team will wait until Feb. 22 for Stroman to join mandatory workouts, which all other available pitchers and catchers have already attended. A league source reported that Stroman plans to take a few days for himself before rejoining the team.
