Yankees Place Jazz Chisholm Jr. on Injured List with Oblique Strain

The New York Yankees have confirmed that second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is out for an estimated 4-6 weeks after being placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. The injury, suffered during a swing against the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards on Tuesday, has left the team concerned about its impact on the lineup.

Manager Aaron Boone indicated that Chisholm’s condition is “high-grade,” but expressed optimism that he will heal quickly given his history of rapid recovery. In the meantime, infielder Jorbit Vivas has been called up to fill Chisholm’s role at second base and in the batting order.

Boone praised Vivas for his skills at the plate and on defense, saying he is “very good at second” with a strong ability to lay the barrel on the ball. The 24-year-old Venezuela native made his MLB debut last season and has put up strong numbers in Triple-A this year, including a .319 batting average and .862 OPS.

The injury setback comes as the Yankees continue to navigate injuries across their roster, with multiple players already on the injured list, including Giancarlo Stanton and Gerrit Cole. However, Boone expressed hope that Chisholm will use his time off to reset at the plate and regain consistency in his game.
